Like a van in the dark

That challenge worked out pretty well. I didn’t complete the entire thing, but it definitely got a creative spark going, which was the intent after all. I had fun and learned things about endangered animals, at least. But then life happened. Hit me like a van in the dark. Literally, while I was out driving my motorcycle. So with a broken arm and two broken ribs, a sprained ankle and a few bruises, it is not unreasonable to be drowsy enough on painkillers that there just wasn’t any energy to spare for poetry.

I feel surprisingly calm about it all. Happy and grateful to be alive at all, mostly. I got away real lightly, considering the kind of accident I was in. It wasn’t my fault in the slightest, so there’s not much to regret, really. It remains to be seen whether I’ll be driving a bike again someday. I still have no idea whether my Tiger will turn out to be salvageable, or if I will have the courage to get back up when my arm eventually heals. Strange to have gotten only one summer of having a licence before something like this happened, while some people drive for years and years without incident.

Oh well, luck is fickle, as always. Now to rest and heal, and leave decisions about further driving for the future. Lucky for me writing is not a problem, and although I won’t work for six weeks I can still read and walk and do most everyday things without assistence. I am so, so glad to be alive.

Love and chance,
