“What goes too long unchanged destroys itself.”
— Ursula K. LeGuin (Dragonfly)
Isn’t it marvellous
that a life-form
unchanged for millions of years
appearing alien
not because of new and freakish features
but because it conservatorially remained in its shape
while the rest of the planet moved beyond
copper-tinged blood and silurian bodyshapes
now faces extinction
not because it is no longer adapted to its environment
but because another life-form
in a brutal and clinical way
considers said life-form
in a shortsighted and convenient way
a means of conservation
for itself
Love and conservation,
Winterdragon
