Half a lifetime later I return to this book, in its original language this time. And yes, it remains among my absolute favourites. If anything, I liked it even better this time around. There is so, so much I love about this book. The mythology! The language! The WORLD. A beautiful epic, it once again captivated me from beginning to end (possibly excepting the rather tedious tale of Túrin Turambar). And it all gives off such a deep feeling of solidity. The idea that this is the work of one single person rather than an entire people is astounding.
